For my friends getting into dirt riding, this post will feature some of the info I’ve collected about the best gear on a budget.  I’m not going to reinvent the wheel, and eveRide already has some great tips for discount dual sport gear.

If you haven’t checked out eveRide’s YouTube channel, head over there and see why I plan on going to Utah as soon as I can make it.

Here are my thoughts on the most important Gear.

Helmet

I bought the SCORPION EXO-AT950, and I am pretty happy with it.  The bad side is that its ventilation isn’t as good as it could be in the summer when offroad. I like the modular design and the sunglasses, but if I had it to do over again, I would probably save a hundred or more dollars an buy the AFX-41, the slightly older AFX-39, or the Bell MX-9 Adventure.

Rocky Mountain ATV-MC has a nice comparison and videos for each helmet, and I would recommend buying from them since they will exchange the helmet for free if it doesn’t fit. Revzilla will exchange (with a shipping fee) and makes decent review videos too.  Check the fitment guide for your helmet, having a good fitting helmet is important.

There are cheaper helmets out there, and you can get a lighter dirtbike helmet if you won’t be riding on road and don’t need a visor.  If you are more confident about your helmet size, you can get a great deal on helmets and other gear at motorcyclecloseouts.com

Boots

I want to buy the Forma Adventure Low Boots, but have held off due to the price, and so many recommendations to get the full taller boots.

Kneepads

I just ordered the A.R.C.-Pro Flex Knee Shin Guards.  My hope is that they will give enough coverage to make me feel better about getting the low boots mentioned above.

I will update this post with more gear and info in the future.
